Transformers Devastation
Transformers Devastation based off my childhood favorite toys is a licensed video game developed by Platinum games.
One of the most notable things about the game is it's cel shaded style graphics. It is highly inspired by the original generation 1 cartoon and its bright and cartoon like and very colorful.
The main thing about the story is it feels and plays like a G1 episode back in the 80s. Even though it is based off the Combiner wars storyline in Generations. But the story is quite short it can take you a few hours to beat the game. The story is simple but still entertaining and fun. You have to stop Megatron and the Decepticons from taking over the earth.
The game consists of seven chapters, which are each split up into several missions, including some optional side-missions. Players are ranked on each mission based on their overall performance. Like in other games made by Platinum such as Bayonetta or Metal Gear Revengeance.
Players can earn credits and gain new weapons by defeating enemies, destroying certain objects, and clearing puzzles hidden across each chapter. Credits can be used to purchase new items, moves, and weapons, forge T.E.C.H. to grant passive stat boosts, synthesize weapons to make them stronger, or increase the stats of each Autobot. The game features multiple levels of difficulty, with more unlocked upon clearing the game multiple times. An additional Challenge Mode offers 50 stand-alone missions.
You could also find collectibles in the game as well like Concept art of various transformers from in Generation 1 to also their concept art for their combiner wars toys as well. So there is some replay value in the game as well.
Some of the surviving G1 voice actors are back like Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. And they still do a perfect job reprising their roles as Megatron and Optimus Prime along with the rest of the cast who does reprise their roles.
The score is even composed by one of the original G1 musicians Vince Dicola and its actually songs that can work in g1 and its all rock and metal that is always fast paced and hyper whenever you are fighting an enemy. And each decepticon boss has their own soundtrack made just for them.
I like the hack and slash combat the game has its fast paced and you can customize your weapons and upgrade them and there is a good amount of weapons be it swords or firearms to customize. In addition, you can also upgrade your characters status.
In certain sections of the game things do get to feel dull like having to kill a certain number of enemies while defending one of the Autobots and also having to fight multiple insecticons and there really isn't much variety of decepticon soldiers to fight.
The camera angle is awkward too I had to rebalance my camera a lot just so I can see where I am. But I did found the controls to be quite smooth and they were all highly well done.
You can play up to 5 different autobots Optimus,Grimlock,Bumblebee,WheelJack and Sideswipe. Each with their own playstyles and vehicle forms. They carry their own overcharge attack when fully charged you can use it to kill multiple enemies. You can transform into vehicle mode at anytime and you can also use your ranged weapons while in vehicle mode. You are even able to ram into enemies as well by charging up your speed and pressing the button at the right time which gives some pretty serious damage to enemies.
Overall I found this to be fun and I enjoyed getting to fight the decepticons.
It gets 4 stars.
If you like Transformers check this one out. And its a decent game you can play at anytime and just have fun slashing decepticons.
