Kid Icarus Uprising

Kid Icarus: Uprising is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive on rails shooter hack and slash hybrid by Nintendo. The lead development was done by Masahiro Sakurai and with that, you will notice a lot of the gameplay mechanics from the Super Smash Bros series will also appear in this game. One of the reason this game was made was due to Kid Icarus resurgence in popularity becasue of Pitt’s inclusion in the game. The game focuses on Pitt taking down the Underworld and a mysterious enemy that threatens all of Earth. The story is based on Greek Mythology. Pitt is a disciple of the Goddess of Light and he battles Medusa who wants to destroy humans, and Hades, God of the Underworld.

The localization in this game it is just unbelievably bad, from the dialogue, voice acting the constant barrage of unfunny jokes every few seconds, even during serious moments was distracting and very annoying. The characters too were just really not engaging especially Viridi, who pretty much just spends most of the time in the game being annoying rather than helpful. The game has a lot of filler: for example, the Aurum arc of the story just felt unnecessary and really and caused the game to drag considering the lack of backstory.

The game does sequel bait too and sold very well, Nintendo never developed a sequel.  There were some other loose ends too like Viridia is still a huge threat along with the rest of her army.

The gameplay is straight forward enough, defeat enemies reach to the end point and fight the boss. The control system on the other hand is really awkward and if you are left handed, it is going to be nigh impossible for you to play it due to the awkward control system. The stage designs were interesting and so were the graphics and art direction and character designs. The music was excellent as well.

The game has a good amount of extra content like unlocking music tracks, artworks, weapons and so on. The offering feature is really unbelievably unnecessary all it just does is literally brings the Goddess Palutena in close up view that is really a waste of currency and a far cry from the original slot machine of the Smash Bros games. You can fuse weapons but the way its handled is finicky and not really properly executed. You can get collectible items as you play.

Overall, it was an alright game.

It gets 4 out of 5 stars.
