Lover Pretend

Lover Pretend is an otome game for the Nintendo Switch. The game revolves around Chiyuki, a young girl who aspires to become a romancer writer in the entertainment industry. Here deceased mother was scriptwriter and Chiyuki hopes to follow in her footsteps. She gets a new job at a studio where the man whom she thinks is her father works. Chiyuki has never met her father so she has a lot going on.

The interactivity is straight forward from dialogue options to “pretend time” where you have to quickly choose the right dialogue option to fill in all the puzzle pieces or else you could end up having a bad end in the game. The Lover Pretend mechanic was misleading and not really telling how things were, and the game would have been better without that feature. There are backstage stories that delves deeper into the characters’ lives. The characters were generally ok  and typical of the otome visual novel. Some parts were cheesy at times to the point I found it more awkward than funny.

The artstyle was vibrant and one of the best I have seen in a visual novel. The pacing of game was inconsistent with segments being rushed and that just leaves more questions than answers at times. The user interface is decently designed, and the music was very good. The voice actors were excellent as well.  It is a fairly long game with quite a good amount of replay value.

Overall, it was an ok visual novel.

It gets 3 out of 5 stars.

This is for more so hardcore fans of otome.
