Piofore is an Otome visual novel for the Nintendo Switch set in the Mafia world of 1925 in Bulone, a city in Italy. Burlone is ruled by three different Mafia families, the Falzone, the Visconti and the Lao-Shu which is an offshoot of the Chinese Mafia. As expected in a Mafia themed game, there is a lot of violence.
It focuses on the lead character Liliano Adornato getting caught up in the underworld in Italy and having to use her considerable wits and charm to survive.
The story in some ways is pretty similar to Bungo Stray Dogs with the gang conflict plot and bishie characters.
The characters most of them are really not likable especially Yang, and if anything pretty much falls on the borderline abusive category save for Orlok, who is the only sensible person in the visual novel. Gil was pretty decent too. Lilliana is a church orphan filled with all the moral righteousness and strict code of c onduct for someone with her strict upbringing. Her character fit that well into story and she seems out of her depth at times.
There were some inconsistencies in how the characters behaved being wholesome and caring and then flipping to being totally unsympathetic the next. So there is some tonal balance issues here from one part wholesome fluff Otome to another part Bungo Stray Dogs meets Gen Urobuchi styled edge. The artstyle was excellent and so were the character designs. I really liked the user interface as it was very appealing. The soundtrack was very good. With various paths to traverse, the game has a lot going for it and there is a decent amount of replay value.
Overall, it was a decent visual novel.
It gets 4 out of 5 stars.
