Psycho Pass Providence

Psycho Pass Providence is the prequel movie to season 3 of the Psycho Pass series.

It focuses on the Criminal Bureau Investigation team and the Minstry of affairs going after a mysterious terrorist group that is out against them.

Its best to be caught up to speed with the series as a whole to really get more of an understanding with this movie.

Storywise its really meh to be honest here, season 1 had the perfect mix of action and philosophical storytelling handled over a span of multiple episodes and could have ended on its own in just one season here, it pretty much now that i think of it after being into the series for a long time now, its pretty much following onto the path of what the Fast And Furious movies did to the series not really good.

Pacing wise, its pretty fast considering the actiony focused of that so consequently things do feel rushed storywise from time to time like establishing plotpoints and logic loopholes here and there.

Apparently one of the biggest story influences was the batsoup wuflu plandemic which is pretty bizarre choice as apparently the writing team wanted to make it feel isolative and distant but if anything, but that.

Sure the series still retains the cyberpunk feel and thriller atmosphere like before, but here it just feels more, homogenized considering its more so focused on action than investigation.

The animation and art is as great as before certainly and im glad seeing Kogami and Saiga in action again, but i was pretty surprised that they killed him off, but what a way to go if you ask me.

The only real bad character design i did find was one of the villains looked bizzarely like your average ekid drug addict soon to be dead by their own hand or someone else from the streets will aka some jackass from opium or members only would lmao like yeah, pretty bizzare and really out of place having someone who looks like carti or lil uzi vert or xxxtentacion be there.

Just like before, the antagonists aren’t as interesting or compelling as Makishima was something that to this day will never be topped or equaled too unfortunately.

I’m still to this day, not fond of Mika as she still is as incredibly insufferable as before can’t really say the same for Mika either considering how bland she is too on that note and going on spoiler territory here but glad it explained why she was locked up after 2 fucking years of guesswork and theories on why she was in the first place surprised she actually did what she did shooting the chief defiently not something anyone coulda predicted back in season 1 but wow that was a surprise when it happened.

The music is as great as ever, as this is one of the last times EGOIST is ever going to work on an anime and its great Ling Tosite Sigure is still around doing music too.

Action wise, its as bloody as ever considering the action focus of the anime considering how Tow Ubakata is on the helm writing the story at least it had somewhat more dominator use than in season 3.

Overall it was an ok movie.

It gets 3 out of 5 stars.

At this point, Psycho Pass really should just end it already and scrap the sybil system once and for all its run its course and its pretty much just running on fumes and its going to take another few years, to really see it conclude knowing how slow the anime industry could be unfortunately so the only thing one could really do is just watch something else instead of seeing a once beloved franchise just decay itself into the ground just to fuel a cynical commercialized series sadly.
