The Legend Of Heroes Trails Into Daybreak
The Legend Of Heroes Trails Into Daybreak is the first part of the Calvard arc series of the Trails games.
It focuses on Van Arkide and his team from Arkide solutions taking on various oddjobs from criminal to legal groups as all part of keeping the peace within Calvard in Zemuria.
The story is pretty much the atypical Trails game, save the world, countless government and criminal coverups, criminals that just keep on getting away with crimes and leaving lot of vague hints to the point it just comes across as insufferable and lot of plot twists and turns that all leads to some sort of demon being behind the events and its up to you to stop them from carrying out their plans as usual.
And of course the amount of plotholes for sequel bait is there too.
The amount of filler in this game too is just as annoyingly bad as before and its retreading older complaints i had from the previous Falcom games i have reviewed thus far.
The characters themselves aren’t really anything all that special knowing Falcom writing where everyone is an expy of an atypical jrpg character.
Also knowing Falcom the game has the expected flaw sadly of juggling from so many characters that don’t really get as much screentime as they should inevitably.
On the otherhand i did liked the idea of an already expirenced seen it all type of character that Van has had.
The localization especially the dialogue, its really the worst i have seen in any Falcom game as of this writing from the amount of gen-z memespeak to straying far from the original dialogue source its an absolute disaster and its really gotten to the point its clear that Falcom should really consider doing translations in house than hiring middle companies from Xseed,Aksys or especially NIS to doing translation and publishing duties.
The comedy in the game too, was also incredibly atrocious as usual per anything Falcom writes.
The voice acting too was pretty bland.
The graphics are as good as ever and you can tell Falcom has really came a long way now with its technology for the most part, as otherwise the game does quite a bit of asset flipping from previous games admittedly.
The technical hiccups are still there though it may not be as prevalent on the playstation consoles as i did played the switch version.
The real time combat itself, it did felt kind of button mashing to the point where you’re better off with the turned based combat as otherwise, Ys and Nayuta have had solid combat systems weird how with real time being expiramented in the main game of a Trails series to have its own shortcomings.
The world design is pretty large almost to the extent of Xenoblade’s world design.
The game introduces a new chaos, neutral and law system where you are given perks like for example Mare who can help you out in combat and give you special abilties to assist you based on the morality you have in the game and you can max all out equally throuout your playthroughs and the reality of these decisions ultimately prove to be beyond futile as it falls under the same trappings that persona 3-5,another code recollection,ys and twewy to an extent has had beyond pointless superficial decisions that don’t really affect the story at all in any way.
The combat in the game is either real time or turn based and both options are pretty easy to pick up and play for newcomers of the game.
The boost system is backed where you can charge up your special meter to do more damage in combat.
Like before it functions the same where after a certain while you can use and upgrade your special abilities in combat and also customize extensively your abilties and strenghts with the orbal system.
The achievement system as seen from Reverie makes a return giving your bonuses for each task you finish.
Theres plug in chips too same thing as the orbal system where you can choose which kind of abilties you like to use in combat.
The game isn’t as grindy as it was before with previous games in the past and the economy too is pretty huge especially considering the story nature of the game it almost in some ways rivals twewy, persona and yakuzas own extensive economy system.
The repeating boss fights over and over again was really not good and just serveed as more filler to the story.
One of the most odd things about this game, is the lack of minigames wheras the previous games especially reverie had quite the value of them, this just makes replay value of the game ironically more limited than the superfical storytelling.
Theres also bonding moments too and gourmet points where the more you do either of those the more bonuses you can get to help you in combat.
The music is as great as ever knowing Falcom.
Overall it was an ok game.
It gets 3 out of 5 stars.
The series is actually coming to an end soon probably by the end of this decade if either of us are still going to be alive that is lol, after the farewell to Zemuria game and the future of the other games its finally going to come to and end soon and good honestly, and i really do not wish to seek to review doing either Trails or Ys games in the future once they are completed only the more lesser known ones like Tokyo Xanadu or even Popful Mail from his point on whenever those games do reach their full conclussion, as at this point Trails is as milked as much as Final Fantasy 7 and 15 were and its really only a matter of time before Falcom crashes out like Square,Sega and Capcom are doing lately so i don’t really have any high hopes for the future of the games.
